Resistance, Fear, Emotions and You – Are You Blaming The Fuel Gauge?

If you were driving up the motorway and the fuel light came on, what would you do?

Would you shout at it, scream it and get angry at it?

Would you cover it up and pretend it didn’t matter?

Would pull over to the side of the road and disconnect the bulb and say “Phew! Glad I got to that in time!”?

Of course not!

Not only would that be… well… weird… but it would also be completely ineffective too, right?

Because you KNOW that the only reason the fuel light comes on is because there’s no fuel in the tank.

You also know that the only way to remedy the problem that might leave you stranded on the side of the road is to get yourself to a gas station and top up the tank too, right?

So why do you use a different strategy with those areas where you’re feeling resistance, fear and other ‘dark side’ emotions that you experience as part of your journey through life?

Why do you feel you should ‘smash through’ your resistance or ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ rather than see these emotions as the ‘warning light’ on your fuel gauge that tells you that something deeper down and out of sight needs to be addressed?

See, emotions are just signals and warning lights.

The emotion itself ISN’T the problem which means, of course, that ‘smashing through’ and’ just doing it’ doesn’t do anything to address the reason that you’re feeling it.

The emotion isn’t the CAUSE of your struggle, just as the gas light isn’t the CAUSE of your car breaking down on the motorway, it’s simply the SIGNAL that the ‘tank’ is empty and it shows you where work needs to be done to fill it back up.

It shows you where WORK needs to be done!

And sure, the analogy only stretches so far… I know you’re not a car and that you CAN and probably DO smash through and just keep doing stuff even while you’re feeling fear, resistance and darkness.

And that’s all well and good.

But have you noticed that the ‘light’ stays on?

That you’re STILL feeling those negative emotions and feelings DESPITE ‘just doing it’?

And you pretty much always will because until you DO THE WORK and address the resistance, fear and darkness in your life, the light has NO CHOICE but to stay on.

Don’t you think it’s time to turn it off?

To fill the tank?

To do the work?

Only you know the answer to that.

And only you can do anything about it.

Will you?

Will you do the work?

Truth, joy and love
