[Dax’s 100 TED Talks # 3 – Elizabeth Gilbert – Success, failure and the drive to keep creating]

As part of my MAGIC Hundred education and growth goals I’m watching 100 TED talks by December 31st as a means to expose myself to new ideas and perspectives and expand my thinking.

This great presentation from Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love) was awesome in that it supports very eloquently what I’ve been sharing from the fields of neuroscience and self development for a long time now…

…that the ‘cure’ for failure, feeling like a failure or living a disconnected live is to attune deeply and powerfully with the values, beliefs and purpose that make us who we really are.

Gilbert describes this beautifully as ‘going home’ and shares the perspective that our home is what we love more than ourselves.

Sounds a bit strange at first, particularly as self help tends to share the idea of loving ourselves first yet there’s a lot of wisdom in finding the thing that we love more than ourselves and using THAT as the homing beacon (not to be confused with either addiction or infatuation, of course).

See, from a neuroscience perspective, love is acceptance, connection and care and it’s clear that we don’t always feel that way about ourselves at all times, yet there are some things that we do.

Gilbert LOVES writing (as do I) and feels at home when she returns to it.

I LOVE contribution and making a difference in the lives of those I come into contact with and always feel at home when I return to THAT regardless of whatever else is happening in my life.

What do YOU love that would bring you home?

A great video and well worth a watch.

Enjoy!

P.S – What thoughts or feelings did the presentation evoke in YOU?
What will you DO as a result of having watched it?

(Remember, information itself is not powerful, it’s what we DO with it that makes a difference)
