[Dax’s 100 TED Talks #20 – Helen Fisher: Technology hasn’t changed love. Here’s why…]

As part of my MAGIC Hundred education and growth goals I’m watching 100 TED talks by December 31st as a means to expose myself to new ideas and perspectives and expand my thinking.

Today I watched this fascinating presentation by anthropologist Helen Fisher who combines historical, sociological, biological and neuroscientific perspectives on romantic love and comes to the conclusion that despite all appearances, social media, texting, sexting, email and other technological advances in communication HAVEN’T affected the way people connect and fall in love.

Fisher’s assertion is that aspects of personal communication and connection that have ALWAYS been a part of romantic love throughout the ages are just as present as ever and that, in fact, it was the agricultural age more than any other period that upset the balance of what was considered ‘normal’ in this area and that, in fact, we may be moving back into a more authentic and balanced period again.

Fisher’s perspectives on the 4 hormonal drivers of romantic needs are fascinating too and certainly something that I’ve witnessed during my 19 years as a coach.

I enjoyed both the presentation and the subsequent ‘thought trip’ it evoked.

Well worth a watch 🙂

P.S – What thoughts or feelings did the presentation evoke in YOU?

What will you DO as a result of having watched it?

(Remember, information itself is not powerful, it’s what we DO with it that makes a difference)
