[Dax’s 100 TED Talks # 2- Ron Finley – A Guerilla Gardner In South Central LA]

As part of my MAGIC Hundred education and growth goals I’m watching 100 TED talks by December 31st as a means to expose myself to new ideas and perspectives and expand my thinking.

Today I watched this AWESOME presentation by Ron Finley whose talk about gardening, activism and making a difference was heartwarming, inspiring and funny at the same time.

The more ‘superficial’ part of the message was about the importance of food in society but the deeper layers that I particularly loved was the idea that people who grow their own food develop a different appreciation for not only the food but for themselves and their communities too.

I love Finley’s call for MORE gangsters in neighbourhoods… but to redefine being a gangster as cool, as a contributor, as someone willing to pick up a shovel and ‘do shit’ rather than talk about what needs to be done.

That perspective reminds me of a post I wrote years ago where I said that we should be constantly on the lookout for hearing ourselves say “THEY ought to do something about that” and turn the criticism into an invitation based on the question “What do *I* intend to do about that?”

A great video and well worth a watch.

Enjoy!

P.S – What thoughts or feelings did the presentation evoke in YOU?

What will you DO as a result of having watched it?

(Remember, information itself is not powerful, it’s what we DO with it that makes a difference)
