[Dax’s 100 TED Talks #18 – BJ Miller: What really matters at the end of life]

As part of my MAGIC Hundred education and growth goals I’m watching 100 TED talks by December 31st as a means to expose myself to new ideas and perspectives and expand my thinking.

Today I watched this beautiful and thought-provoking presentation by BJ Miller, a palliative care physician talking about living life through to its end with care, imagination and playfulness.

I love this because it’s EXACTLY what I spend the days of my life talking to others about and feel that this, more than anything else determines the quality of our lives.

Miller tells some beautiful and moving stories about those he has worked with and how simple awareness of ‘the little things’ turns out to be… well… not so little. Once again, the parallels between this as an ‘end of life’ message and my thoughts on what creates the most powerful ‘live your life’ messages are amazing and truly powerful.

“You can always find a shock of beauty and meaning in what life you have left… if we love such moments ferociously, then maybe we can learn to live well, not in spite of death, but because of it… let death be what takes us. Not lack of imagination”

Just wow!

Let death be what takes us, not lack of imagination.

Worthy of a tattoo on our hearts, I think.

I enjoyed this presentation very much.

I think you will too.

Enjoy!

P.S – What thoughts or feelings did the presentation evoke in YOU?

What will you DO as a result of having watched it?

(Remember, information itself is not powerful, it’s what we DO with it that makes a difference)
